Elks Youth Camp

The Elks Youth Camp, dedicated in 1949 as a gift to the youth of our community by the Elks organization, offers a unique outdoor experience in the heart of Fort Lauderdale. The facility features six cabins accommodating up to 68 guests and a Lodge equipped with a kitchen and seating for 85. Located adjacent to the park’s coastal dune lake, the camp provides direct access to its natural beauty, giving campers an immersive experience in nature. The camp is available for rental by organized youth groups.

How do I make a reservation?

Reservations must be made in person at the Ranger Station and paid for in advance. The Ranger Station is open from 8am – sunset, 365 days a year.

How many people does the camp accommodate?

Group size is limited to a maximum of 68 people. A minimum of two adults over the age of 18 are required for every 10 children under the age of 18 years. Park staff reserve the right to confirm guest count.

There are 6 cabins in total: 5 cabins sleep 12 campers each.  The 6th cabin sleeps 8 campers and is ADA accessible and sleeps 2 adults and 6 children under the age of 18.

What are the fees associated with renting the Elks Youth Camp?

The youth camp fee is $300.00 per night, up to 30 people. For each additional person over 30, there will be an additional $10.00 per person per night fee, a $6.70 reservation fee, plus tax. Any changes to the reservation will incur a $10.00 change fee. Groups claiming tax exemption status must provide the park a copy of their Tax Exemption Certificate at the time the reservation is made.

Final guest count and outstanding balances must be paid at check-in at the ranger station before keys to the camp and gate entrance codes will be issued.

At check-out, you must return to the Ranger Station, to settle the balance of any additional charges. All tax-exempt groups must pay in check or credit card and payments must include the group organization name which must match the Tax Exemption Certificate or tax will be included. The group is responsible for payment of any missing inventory items, damage or cleaning fees which are not tax exempt.

All day visitors visiting the camp, must pay the required entrance fees. A count will be kept of all cars coming into the youth camp and the group will be charged for any additional registered youth campers.

Park staff reserve the right to enter the camp to confirm guest attendance.

Is there a cancellation fee?

Cancellations must be made within 14 days of the arrival, or a one-night stay will be forfeited, including a $6.70 administrative fee and $17.75 cancelation fee. (Refunds may take up to six weeks to process).

What time can we check-in and out?

Check-in time is at 4:00 pm. At least one adult(s) must be available for check in and check out orientation.   We ask that the same adult(s) is available for check out.  Check out time is 11:00 am. Check-outs past 11:00am will result in being charged an additional day.

Are fires permitted?

Fires are permitted only in designated BBQ grills and campfire rings. Please bring your own insect-free firewood sourced within a 50-mile radius, as collecting wood within the park is strictly prohibited.

Campfires require prior approval from both park personnel and the Fire Department at 954-828-3614. Fires are not allowed during drought conditions, and the lodge fireplace is strictly off-limits for fire use.

What items and activities are prohibited in the camp?

  • Pets
  • Water balloons, pools or other water activities
  • No silly string, confetti, painting, chalk on sidewalks, candle making or dyeing of clothing is permitted.
  • Hammocks and tents
  • Cutting of tree limbs or palm fronds is prohibited. Touching, collecting, and/or feeding any animal, wildlife or plants is not permitted.

What are the camp hours?

Park hours are from 8:00am to sunset every day (sunset times vary throughout the year).

Camp quiet hours are 11:00pm through 8:00am.

Who has access to the camp during my stay?

Park staff and designated volunteers reserve the right to enter the camp at any time for the purpose of resolving maintenance, repair and safety issues, re-stocking of supplies and security matters.

For security reasons, keep the youth camp and building gate secured during your stay.  If anyone enters the youth camp that is not with your group, let them know that it is a private camp and call the ranger station if there are any problems.

Where can I park my car?

All vehicles must be parked in the area south of the youth camp lodge. Day visitors must park outside the camp fence on the right side of the pavement. Please leave
enough room to allow for emergency vehicle access!

Primitive Youth Campground

The Primitive Youth Camp at Hugh Taylor Birch State Park offers a rustic and nature-immersed experience for organized youth groups. Amenities include a firepit surrounded by newly installed benches, a free-standing charcoal grill, two clevis unit toilets, an outdoor cold-water shower, and access to fresh water via two spigots—one equipped with a hose. A recently added swing gate and fence enhance the security and definition of the camp’s entrance. Ideally situated near two scenic hiking trails—one winding through mangrove habitat and the other through a maritime hammock—the camp is also just a short walk from the Intracoastal Waterway. Please note that the camping area is in full sun; guests are encouraged to plan and pack accordingly for a comfortable stay.
